Keto Recipe Digest #6
Original Email Sent Friday Oct. 18th, 2019 -
Well it’s finally Friday! Yay!
So after trying to cram 5 days of work into 3 I’m a little late in getting this week’s digest out, let’s hope it was worth the wait right?
So staying on our themed emails, this is the ”foods you may have lived on while in school, bit probably don't indulge in very often now” themed digest...
These are all those foods you might have felt guilty for eating, or avoided because they were ”bad for you”... These versions don't have to be avoided.
So what have we got in this week’s edition?
Keto corn dogs - it's been fall fair heaven and corn dogs are just one of those things that remind me of going to the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) as a kid
Keto onion rings - yes, I like my fries, but as a teen, 8 times out of 10, my burger order at the golden star burger joint down the road from school was accompanied by rings not fries.
Mac and cheese - because I will even break Keto on my birthday weekend in Pittsburgh for a good mac and cheese (which you can find at ”the yard” by the way... and I did... And it was good). Granted there is no ”mac” in the mac and cheese, but the cauliflower can reasonably mimic the ”bite” of pasta and the sauce definitely has all the flavours, so it's a win.
Brownies - they don't even need an explanation for why a key version is needed... Brownies are manna from heaven. Yes, we had another version of this recipe a few weeks ago… you can’t have too many brownie recipes can you?
Shamrock shake - so growing up as a kid, a trip to McDonald’s was a special event. Do you remember when they used to have special, limited time only, flavoured shakes at different times of the season?... There was the banana one, and the creamscicle one and the shamrock mint shake... Shamrock was by far my favourite. I introduced it a few years back to Maddie a few years back and realized i’d rather experiment with a reasonable facsimile then take the trip through the drive thru.
Keto mug cakes - it's late at night, you’re watching a film and you’re hankering for a treat but baking a whole cake at that hour to have a slice is beyond ridiculous... Enter the mug cake. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius, it's like an almost instant cupcake in a mug. This recipe has suggestions for how to customize so you coils theoretically have a different cake for every mug you own (I’m hoping you don't own like 30 or something mugs when I say that)
Ramen soup - not those bricks of freeze dried noodles that come in crinkly plastic and cost practically nothing... Ramen soup with nice slurpy noodles and broth and all the fixing like you might get in one of those cheap and awesome, open really late, restaurants in china town you frequented because it was down the street from the university (or at least I did)
Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend
